Kiteboarding is a fairly new and revolutionary sport that gets more and more popular everyday. These kiters ride a board on the water while simultaneously controlling the power source of the kite. This sport combines surfing, wakeboarding, hand gliding, and para-gliding and use the wind as fuel. The winds on the Island are almost always constant, and south Texas is indeed one of the best places to kite, sail, windsurf, and kiteboard in the world. Kitboarders can either board on the Bayside, which is about four and a half feet deep, for a nice flat ride, or on the beachside, which offers a choppier session, big waves and great jumps. Boarders can literally ride both on the same day, the best of both worlds! Don't worry if you are a beginner and have never tried this sport, there are plenty of places on the Island that teach lessons on how to kiteboard.
