There are two sections of jetties on SPI. On the southend of the Island, the southern jetties divide South Padre Island from Boca Chica Beach. Over on the North end about thirty- five miles up the Island lies the Port Mansfield Cut. These jetties are a very popular and have a reputation for catching monster fish right off the rocks. No need for boats or guides to catch plenty of great species of fish. All you need is the right kind of gear, tackle, bait and a little know-how and you're all set. Most all types of coastal species can be caught from the jetties. From Mangrove snapper, pompano, sheepshead, king mackerel, to flounder, tarpon, and various species of sharks are very common off of these rocks. This type of fishing is very economical for the whole family and is a prime fishing spot for many of the locals. The southern coastal jetty even has its own bait stand right at the beginning of the rocks just in case you forgot or run out of bait. |
